Norman Phillip Cross

MEMORY ETERNAL! With faith in Christ and hope of Resurrection, we share news of the repose of our beloved parishioner. Norman Phillip Cross, age 89, of Myerstown, PA (formerly of Owego, NY) fell asleep in the Lord surrounded by his loving family on January 18th, 2024 after a short illness, joining his beloved wife of 64 years Janet (Zagorski) Cross in heaven. The couple's legacy of love and family will continue for years to come. Norman is survived by his four children, Norma (Nick) MacDonald of Albany, NY, Andrew (Laurie) Cross of Myerstown, PA, Phillip (Vanessa) Cross of Surf City, NC, and Judy Lamp of Leesburg, VA. His memory will live on eternally through his eight grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as "Jiddoo": Andrea (Dominic) Defino of Houston, TX, Daniel (Danielle) Cross of Hampstead, NC, Alexandra (Tim) Cross of Philadelphia, PA, Jenna (Michael) Noblit of Monterey, CA, Phillip (Emilie) Cross of Central Square, NY, Julia Cross of Wilmington, NC, Sophia Lamp of Tempe, AZ, Nicholas Lamp of Blacksburg, VA. and three great-grandsons Jameson, Oliver, and Camden. He is also survived by his sister Rose Marie Kresge of Philadelphia, PA and many nieces and nephews. Norman was a man of strong faith, serving for many years as the President of SS. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in Endicott, NY where he was honored with the Order of Saint Innocent, the highest honor for a non-clergy member in the Orthodox church. Norman graduated from GAR High School in Wilkes-Barre, PA. He would go on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Navy before dedicating over 50 years of his life to IBM/Lockheed Martin in Owego, NY where he left an incredible mark on the lives and careers of countless colleagues. Known for his sense of humor, Norman had a love for silly jokes, camels, a good breakfast spot, and lately a fondness for sappy Hallmark movies. His love of the NY Giants and NY Yankees brought him great joy (and plenty of frustration) over the years. His legacy is one of love, commitment, and a lasting impact on both his family and the community he served. Norman's nephew, Bishop Thomas Joseph, put it best moments after Norman had passed when he said, "I would love to be able to go to my judgement with the life that Uncle Norman lived". Norman/Norm/Jiddoo will be remembered fondly and dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Stephen W. Kostyshak

Stephen Kostyshak, 92 of Endwell, NY peacefully fell asleep in the Lord, Thursday, January 4, 2024. He was predeceased by his parents, Anna (Vencko) and William Kostyshak; his wife of 62 years, Natalie (Kozemchak) Kostyshak; brothers Peter, Michael, John, Edward, Andrew, Joseph; sisters Helen Himko and Celia Koast; son-in-law Edward Stavana. He is survived by his daughters, Tonya Stavana (John Fedorko), Tami (Russ) Ramirez, Tina (Scott) Sylvester; grandchildren, Christopher and Timothy Stavana, Jared Ramirez and Lia (AJ) Madison, Dr. Skylar Sylvester (Dr. Christian Folk) and Morgan (Alex) Pollinger; great grandchildren Sasha and Hallie Madison; his sister Maryann Sinnema; also several nieces and nephews. Stephen grew up on the family farm in Town of Binghamton and it always remained a huge part of his life. He was physically fit and continued to chop wood on his land well into his eighties. He graduated from Binghamton North in 1950. He served in the United States Air Force from 1952-1957 during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged and became a member of Disabled American Veterans. He always said he did the best he could with what he had and was always ready to lend a helping hand to all. After serving, he worked for New York Telephone and then the Postal Service for 25 years. He was a quiet, humble and generous man that loved his family very much. He was a proud member of Ss. Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church, Endicott and their R Club where he helped out wherever he was needed. The family would like to thank Fr. Timm Holowatch and V. Rev. Alexey Karlgut for their love, support and friendship over the years. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 11:30 am at Ss. Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church 210 Hill Ave. Endicott, NY. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 10:30 am until time of service at 11:30 am. Donna Susan (Renczkowski) Petrylak formerly of Kirkwood 73 years, fell asleep in the Lord on Wednesday evening, January 11, 2017 at the Vestal Park Nursing Center. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph J. Petrylak, two daughters, Denise and Joann, a son, Mark and her parents, Paul and Susan (Hrywnak) Renczkowski. Donna is survived by her devoted son, Stephen Petrylak, two special daughters, Kim and Lisa, her grandchildren, whom she was so proud of loved with all her heart, Courtney, Jessica and Michael Petrylak, two sisters, Lois (Joseph) Andrascik of Binghamton; and Paulette (John) Daniel of Liverpool, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was a member of Saints Peter & Paul Orthodox Church and a retired employee of the I.B.M. Corporation, Endicott. Cross, Lionel Robert

Lionel Robert Cross, 100, of Endwell, NY, died on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at his home. Lionel was predeceased by his wife, Julie J. (Sokol) Cross, his infant daughter, Maeva Jean, his parents, Orville and Olive Cross, brothers, Quintin and Glenn, sisters, Barbara McLain and Beverly Stables, sister-in-law, Dorothy Cross. Lionel is survived by his son Daniel and his wife Sue, and their son Alexander, and several nieces and nephews. Lionel was born in Endicott, where he attended Union-Endicott Schools. After school, he worked for IBM as a Modelmaker. In 1944 he was called into service in the Army for five and half years. He worked for IBM for 39 years and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was a member of Round Hill Lodge #533, Otseningo Consistory and Kalurah Shrine Temple. Lionel was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Russian Orthodox Church, Endicott, since 1946. A funeral service will be offered at Sts. Peter & Paul Russian Orthodox Church, 210 Hill Ave. Endicott, on Wednesday, at 10:30 a.m. The Very Rev. Alexey Karlgut, Pastor of his church will officiate. Solomon, Olga Kyzmir

Olga peacefully fell asleep in the Lord Sunday November 27 at Beechtree Care Center Ithaca, NY survived by her daughter Susanne, Son-in-law Jack Thompson and her Granddaughter Katherine Olga. Olga is also survived by her nephew Peter James Kyzmir and his children Kristin Kyzmir-Martin with her children Peyton and Lincoln all in the Lisle, NY area, Erica Kyzmir-McKeon and her daughter Lois of Boston, MA, and Alexandra Kyzmir, as well as her sister Alice Matthews of Vestal, NY and her children Katherine Robertson and Philip Matthews. Olga, married 58 years, was the widow of Joseph Solomon, and was predeceased by her mother and father Katherine and Philip and her brothers Peter, Theodore, John and Jack. Olga had been an Executive Secretary for Harrison Radiator in Lockport, NY as well as in Seaford, DE. A 1940 graduate of Lockport NY Senior High School and champion basketball player, Olga was very active in her community wherever she lived, and was Past President of YWCA Lockport, Girl Scouts, Garden Clubs in Lockport, Endwell and Roberson/Binghamton (she truly loved her gardens!), a member of several Russian Clubs and active in local projects. Olga was also an alumnae initiate member of Alpha Phi Sorority through her daughter's chapter at Cornell University and was an active supporter. Words cannot express the impact Olga had on her community, family and friends. Charles "Peter" Hovencamp 75 fell asleep in the Lord on Saturday evening, March 26 2016 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. He was a member of SS Peter & Paul Orthodox Church in Endicott. Mary (Kondrat) Kulasza, of Apalachin, passed away Thursday morning, March 3, 2016 at her home. She was predeceased by her husband, Nicholas; her sister, Dorothy Susco; and her parents. Vera Sadonis

Vera Sadonis, 96, of Endwell, passed away Friday morning, February 26, 2016 at Vestal Park Nursing Center. She was predeceased by her parents, Charles & Mary Carson; her loving husband of 62 years, John Sadonis; and her son, Dennis Sadonis. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara & Guy Scott, Cary, NC; her son, Gary Sadonis, Apex, NC; her daughter-in-law, Denise Sadonis, Liverpool, NY; 7 grandchildren, Adrienne Scott, Kyle Scott, Lindsey Sadonis, Brian Sadonis, Tyler Sadonis, Mary Sadonis, and Karen Sadonis; her nieces, Suzanne, Patty, and Sandra; her cousin, Dorothy Williams and her husband, Don; her very special friends, Velma Fotorny and Kathy Gibbs. She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Russian Orthodox Church, Endicott, a graduate of Union Endicott High School, Class of 1937. Vera was a retired baker for the Maine Endwell High School and was affectionately known as the "Cookie Lady." She was an avid baker who enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. After her retirement, Vera and John enjoyed traveling. She was a loving mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Robert S. Kocenko

Endicott: Robert S. Kocenko, 84, of Endicott, passed away Wednesday morning, April 2, 2014, at his home. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Susie (Bussa) Kocenko, Endicott; one son, Robert J. Kocenko, Endicott; his daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Michael Hayes; two grandsons, Michael and Stephen Hayes, all of Slate Hill, NY; two sisters, Pearl Topa, Johnson City, and Josephine Vojtisek, Endicott; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gene and Ann Kenderes, Endicott; also many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends, especially Rita and Phil, Annmarie and David, and Bill and Nadine. He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church, Endicott, a veteran of the US Marines serving during the Korean War, a member of the American Legion Post #1700, the Marine Corps League, and a member of the Binghamton Country Club. Bob was an avid golfer, hunter, and fisherman who enjoyed spending time at Cayuga Lake with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Ann Kolota

Ann P. Kolota, 98, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 6, 2015, of natural causes at her home. She was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Edward J. Kolota in 1987; her brother, Michael Pawlyshyn; and a sister-in-law, Betty Pawlyshyn. She is survived by her children, Martha & her husband, Darius Movasseghi, of Long Island, Ted & his wife, Lise Kolota, of Westborough, MA., and Chris Kolota, of Johnson City; four grandchildren, Pashan, Darion, Quinn and Nick. She is also survived by her brother, Alec; and several nieces and nephews. Ann and her husband, Ed, were entrepreneurs for many years, operating the Almonte Hotel, the Lincoln Hotel, the Windermere and other properties. She devoted endless energy to their businesses and also served as President of the Binghamton Bar & Restaurant Association. All the while she was cooking, sewing, ironing and caring for her family. She also found time to sing in the Binghamton Choral Society and the Sweet Adelines chorus. Ann was a prize-winning needleworker. In her later years, she devoted her life to her church; she was an active member of SS Peter & Paul Orthodox Church. She enjoyed singing in the choir, (as recently as last Sunday) organized bake sales and served on the church board. She was the first woman in the United States to be awarded the Orthodox Church of America St. Innocent medal. A Funeral Service will be offered at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at SS. Vera Komanowski

Vera Komanowski, 71, of Endicott, daughter of the late Nicholas and Tekla Komanowski, passed away Saturday May 16, 2015 at Lourdes Hospital. She was also predeceased by her sister Alexandra and her two brothers Andrew and Nicholas. She is survived by her sister Olga K. Hover, and several nieces and nephews, and her best friend Lois Rubel. Vera graduated from Union-Endicott High School, and the State University at Albany, NY, where she was president of Beta Zeta Sorority, and a member of Myskania the highest governing body of the college. She taught French and Spanish at Maine-Endwell High School, and at Stoneham High School in Stoneham, Mass for many years. Vera was one of the most giving and caring individuals who put others first before herself. She was a strong advocate of the elderly, and less fortunate people. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 11am from Saints Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church, 210 Hill Ave, Endicott, NY 13760 with Father Alexey Karlgut, pastor officiating. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Church Wednesday from 10am until service time at 11. Catherine Oluich

Catherine Kuharsky Oluich, 89 passed away on May 4, 2015 at Willow Point Nursing Home. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael Oluich in 2013. She is survived by three sons, Alexander, Michael and Gregory; a devoted sister, Manya Kuharsky; a brother, The Very Rev. Sergius Kuharsky and his wife, Faith; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Oluich was a graduate of Penn State University and attended the Georgetown University Institute of Foreign Languages. She began her career as a translator for the Department of the Navy in Washington, DC. Later, having moved to Broome County to be closer to family, she became employed as a social worker for the State and later the County, a career which she found to be richly rewarding. Mrs. Oluich loved to sing and over the years belonged to many church choirs. "Always the social worker," even after retirement, she was devoted to visiting the infirm. Funeral services will be held at SS Peter & Paul Orthodox Church, 210 Hill Avenue, Endicott at 10:30 am on Thursday, May 7th. The family will receive visitors at the church from 9:30 am until the time of the service. Interment will be at St. Tikhon's Cemetery, S. Canaan, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Catherine's memory to SS Peter & Paul Orthodox Church. The family is deeply appreciative of the staff at Willow Point Nursing Home for their dedication and compassion.

Alexis W. Russin, Jr.

Alexis W. Russin Jr, of Owego, and formerly of Binghamton and Endicott, passed away Wednesday, November 26, 2014 after a lengthy illness. He was predeceased by his parents Alexis W. and Anna Russin Sr, and two special friends John Sweden and Paul Holowatch. He is survived by many cousins and special friends including Norman and Janet Cross, Shirley Sweden, Stella Holowatch, and Mildred Finch.Funeral Services will be held Tuesday at 1PM from St Peter & Pauls Russian Orthodox Church, 210 Hill Ave, Endicott. Priest John Bohush, 56, Associate Pastor of Saints Peter and Paul Church here, fell asleep in the Lord at UHS Wilson Hospital on Monday, September 8, 2014. Father John was the beloved husband of Matushka Joanna [Pianovich], with whom he would have celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary on October 5, 2014. Born in Clinton, IL, on November 29, 1957, Father John was the son of Archpriest John Bohush, Pastor of Saint Nicholas Church, Philadelphia, and the late Matushka Mary Anne [Benyo] Bohush. He graduated from Kubasaki High School, Okinawa, Japan as a member of the National Honor Society; Wilkes University with a Bachelor of Science degree; MS from Binghamton University; and Master of Divinity degree from Saint Tikhon’s Seminary. Father John was an Eagle Scout, having earned the Orthodox Alpha Omega Award. He retired from IBM, Endicott and Rochester, MN, in 2007, having earned a US Patent Award in computer programming in 2010. He was most recently employed as software developer by Security Mutual Life, Binghamton, NY. Upon completing his studies at Saint Tikhon’s, Father John was ordained to the diaconate in 2007 and holy priesthood in 2011, serving the Diocese of New York and New Jersey of the Orthodox Church in America. He was very active at his parish, Saints Peter and Paul Church, Endicott, NY, where he served as church school director, parish president, and most recently “R” Club president. Father John was known for his generosity, wit, humor, and love for cooking. He enjoyed sports, wrestling and playing football in high school as well as participating in band. He was a huge Philadelphia Eagles fan and was Fantasy Football champion of a family league in 2013. His family was the center of his life, and he will be remembered as always offering himself to others. Father John is survived by his wife and children, Tatiana, of Philadelphia, and John and wife, Anastasia [Bilas] and new love of his life, first grandchild, Natalia, Akron, OH; brothers, Deacon Mark and Patricia and nephew, Andrew, Vestal, NY and Matthew and Kristin Bohush and niece Mary; father-in- law, Archpriest Eugene and the late Matushka Joanna Pianovich; brothers and sisters-in law, Archpriest Daniel and Myra Kovalak, (Daria [Rev. Barnabas] and Natalia [Matthew]); Archpriest John and Eugenia Perich (Taisia and Alixandra [Joseph]); Subdeacon Mark and Valerie [Alan, Jason, Mark]; and several great nieces and nephews. John Sweden

Vestal: John Sweden, 84, of Vestal, passed away Tuesday morning, January 14, 2014, at the Vestal Park Nursing Center. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Eva Sweden; and his sister, Vera Griffin. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Sweden, Vestal; his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Bodnar and Mark Pedro; three grandchildren, Kaylee, Ciarra, and Lucas Bodnar, all of Apalachin; also many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Russian Orthodox Church, Endicott, a veteran of the US Army and a retired Draftsman/Designer for General Electric Corporation. John was an avid gardener and fisherman who enjoyed the outdoors. He enjoyed participating in all of his grandchildren's events. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. The family wishes to thank the entire staff of the Vestal Park Nursing Center for the love and compassion that was shown to John during his stay with them. Anna Matwey

Anna Matwey, 97, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2014 at her Binghamton home. She was born on February 25, 1916 in Jermyn, PA, the daughter of Timko and Julia Jubinsky. She was predeceased by her husband, Peter; her parents; brothers, Metro, Anthony, Michael and Peter Jubinsky; and infant sister, Olga. Anna is survived by her sons, Peter (Mary) Matwey and Paul (Kay) Matwey; sister, Mary Sigler; brother, Paul (Nancy) Jubinsky; sister-in-law, Olga Jubinsky; grandchildren, Gregory Matwey, Eric (Allyson) Matwey, Trevor Matwey and Molli (Steven) Navarro; great-grandchildren, Daniel and Maxwell Reppard, Alexander and Genevieve Matwey; several nieces and nephews. Anna was the matriarch of her devoted family whose love and support enabled her to maintain her independence almost to the end. She was a member of SS Peter and Paul Orthodox Church. At Anna's request, a private funeral service for immediate family members will be held with V. Rev. Alexey Karlgut officiating. The family would like to express their gratitude for the care given to Anna by Lourdes Hospital, 1 Ross and Lourdes Hospice. Edward Pasternak

On August 17, 2013, Ed fell asleep in the Lord and joined his late wife, Helen. The 59th anniversary of their wedding will be on August 28. Ed shared his life together with his children: daughter Melanie Mastanduno (Michael), New Hampshire; son Edward Paul Pasternak (Susan), Michigan; and grandchildren Michael Anthony Mastanduno, Maria Faith Mastanduno and Eddie Joseph Pasternak. He is also survived by his sister, Margaret Havrilak; his brother, Thomas Pasternak; two sisters-in-law, Ann Groner and Catherine Mikuluk; a brother-in-law, Emil Elinsky; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Ed was a long time member of Saints Peter & Paul Orthodox Church, where he sang in the choir and assisted with the ethnic dinners. An electrical engineer who was known for his ability to fix nearly anything, he was a retired employee of the IBM Corporation, Glendale, where he originated two patents. Ed was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a devoted family man, assisting with the care of his wife's mother after she had lost her sight. He loved his wife, children and grandchildren and often traveled to visit his family. Ed also sang with the Downtown Singers for ten years, and served as a member of the Arts Corps at Binghamton University. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Anna Pasternak; his wife's parents, Michael and Apolonia Elinski; his sisters-in-law, Jean Pasternak, Mary Hazilla, Julia Elinski and Olga Hartmann; his brothers-in-law, John and Michael Elinski, Robert Hartmann and Nick Havrilak; nieces, Deborah Hartmann and Liesl Pasternak; and nephew, Michael Hazilla. Family and friends may call at Saints Peter & Paul Orthodox Church, 210 Hill Avenue, Endicott on Friday, August 23 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm and 7:30 to 9:00 pm. A Panikhida will be served at the church at 7:15 pm on Friday, August 23. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 24, at 9 am with the Rev. Timm Holowatch officiating. Burial will be at the Saints Peter & Paul Orthodox Cemetery, Endicott with military honors. Michael Oluich

Michael Oluich, age 91, passed away on August 6, 2013 at Lourdes Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Catherine (Kuharsky) Oluich; three sons, Alexander of Syracuse, Michael of Crested Butte, CO, and Gregory of Conklin; a sister in law, Manya Kuharsky of Boston, MA; a brother-in-law, The Very Rev. Sergius Kuharsky and his wife, Faith of Jackson, NJ; a niece, Barbara Mahdinec of Medina, OH and several other nieces and nephews. Mr. Oluich was a graduate of Case Western University and attended the Georgetown University Institute of Foreign Languages. An Army Air Force Veteran of WWII, he began his career as an analyst for the FBI in Washington, D.C. After moving to Broome County to be closer to his wife's family, he became employed as a foreign language teacher in area schools. He is a past member of the Downtown Singers and Russian Moods Choruses. Mr. Oluich was an avid reader and life-long lover of learning. Funeral Services will be held at SS Peter & Paul Orthodox Church, 210 Hill Avenue, Endicott at 10:30am on Saturday, August 10th. The family will receive visitors from 9:30am to 10:30am prior to the church service. Interment will be at St. Tikhon's Cemetery in S. Canaan, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made either to SS Peter & Paul Orthodox Church or to Meals on Wheels of Broome County.

John Warski

John Warski, 91, of Endicott, joined his Holy Father, at his home, on Sunday, March 17, with his family at his side. He was born on March 15, 1922 in Endicott. He is predeceased by parents, John and Anna Warski and infant brother, Nicholas. John is survived by his beloved wife of over 62 years, Olga (Parkolap); and a brother, Walter; 3 daughters, Cheryl (John) Harrison of Greer, SC, Cathy McBride of Endwell, and Dr. Patricia Warski (Dr. Jeffrey Todd) of Norwich. John is survived by 6 grandchildren, Dr. Ryan McBride(Dr. Rebecca Osterhout), Albuquerque, NM, Ashley (Ryan) Raba, Burke, VA, Stephanie and Gregory Todd of Norwich, Chris (Sylvia) Harrison, Taylors, SC, and Jennifer Bull (Susan Yelverton), Columbia, SC; and 5 great-grandchildren, Kaylee McBride, Julian Raba, Victoria Harrison, and Sophie and Jack Bull. John's life was also blessed with many special nieces, nephews, cousins, and 6 Godchildren. John was a man of faith, love, conviction, honesty and integrity. The consummate family man. He was a graduate of UE High School and a WWII Veteran, having served in the South Pacific. On return, he was employed by EJ followed by 30 years with IBM in Owego. His creativity was demonstrated in the design and construction of his own home, built with his father and close family members, and where he was determined to breathe his last breath. In later years, those memories were always present, as he spoke of them with pride and passion. John was devoted member of SS Peter and Paul Orthodox Church. He dedicated years of service as the church President, Choir Director, then faithful choir member. In earlier years, he enjoyed singing as a member of the Hussar Male Chorus and was a president of the local RBO Chapter. Friends may call on Friday at SS Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, 210 Hill Ave. in Endicott, from 4-6 p.m. with a Parastas service at 5 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 23, at 11 a.m. at the Church. Mary H. Burke

Burke, Mary H. Endicott: Mary H. Burke, 93, of Endicott, left her earthly home peacefully on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 for her heavenly home to the welcoming arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, whom she loved and served faithfully for many years. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Mary and John Holowatch and brothers, Peter, Nicholas and Paul and her sister, Olga. She is survived by her two sisters-in-law, Marie Holowatch, Newark, DE and Stella Holowatch, Endicott, NY. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Mary was born in Simpson, PA. She was a veteran serving in the Naval Service from November 1943 to April 1949. She worked in Milwaukee, WI for many years, retiring in Lake Mary, Florida. She was very dedicated and devoted to her churches where she was a member, especially St. Stephen's in Longwood , FL and the past 6 years was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church in Endicott, NY. She was an avid choir member in her churches for over 80 years. Peter Hulin Bridge (1933 - 2012)

Peter Hulin Bridge, 78, of Town of Binghamton, fell asleep in the Lord on January 24, 2012 after a year long valiant battle with cancer. Born December 23, 1933, in Chicago, Illinois, only child of Morton Levi Bridge and Evelyn Grace Hulin; all other blood relatives have predeceased him; he is survived by his beloved friends Archpriest Alexey Y. Karlgut, Matushka Anastasia Karlgut, and companion of 45 years, Terry C. Peet, as well as many friends from churches and former colleagues in both the Triple Cities and Washington, DC metropolitan areas. Peter attended Oriental Institute of University of Chicago when 12-14 years old studying Middle Egyptian grammar and hieroglyphics; was graduate of Walnut Hills High School, Cincinnati, Ohio, 1952; of Harvard College with A.B., in 1956 in Greek and Latin classics; of Columbia University in 1960 with M.L.S.; ROTC, Harvard and served six months active duty in U.S. Army and eight years in reserve attaining rank of captain; entered library internship program at the Library of Congress in 1960 and retired from the Library in January 1998 after holding a variety of scholarly and mid-management positions; pianist, composer of classical music, train and railroad enthusiast. Peter traveled widely both here and abroad, especially after his retirement; his entire corpus of music compositions, papers and manuscripts is archived in the Library of Congress' Performing Arts Division; was member of SS. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, Endicott and sang in its choir; diagnosed in early March 2011 with cancer and commenced treatments at Upstate University Medical Hospital, Syracuse, we are grateful to the care he received from various health care professionals including Dr. Ajeet Gajra, Dr. Madhuri Yalamanchili, Dr. Rashid Haq, Dr. Jack Hsu, Deborah Schaffer, Danielle Pitcher and several cousins and friends who assisted in his care while confined to home: George Shea, Nancy Crescente, Patricia Shea, Sylvia Kumpon, Jeanne Ford, Nellie Straight and Jack Braunstein and especially to Richard Gremer and Michael Florez for countless acts of kindness towards both Peter and his caregiver, and to a multitude of wonderful parishioners at SS. Peter and Paul for their solicitude and prayers, especially David Dranchak for his practical, emotional and spiritual support after having gone through a similar experience with his brother, Daniel of blessed memory, in 2010. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 10:00 am at St. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, 210 Hill Avenue, Endicott, NY with Fr. Alexey Karlgut officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, January 27, 2012 at the church from 6-8 pm with the parastas at 7:00 pm. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Floral Park Cemetery, Johnson City, NY. Mary Ann Wartonick

Mary Ann Wartonick fell asleep in the Lord on Tuesday evening, November 29, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her parents; Andrew and Helen Malenich, brother, George, and sisters Dorothy and Margaret. She is survived by her devoted husband of fifty-five years; Robert T. Wartonick, two daughters; Susanne (Steven) Harris of Holly Springs, NC, and Cathy (Marvin) Deane of Barboursville, VA, three grandchildren; Jenna and Christian Pokerwinski and Andrew Harris, a brother-in-law; Nicholas (Sonja) Wartonick, nieces, nephew and her faithful companion, her shih-tzu, Max. She was a member of SS Peter & Paul Russian Orthodox Church of Endicott. She loved her family and will be dearly missed. A Funeral Service will be offered by the Very Rev. Alexey Karlgut on Monday at 9:30am at SS Peter & Paul Russian Orthodox Church, 210 Hill Avenue, Endicott. Burial will be in St. Mary's Russian Orthodox Cemetery. George Boras

Each day is a gift from God. George Boras, born April 14, 1927, fell asleep in the Lord on December 1, 2011, at his winter home in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. By God's grace, at the time of his passing, he was surrounded by his wife, Lydia, his children, and his son-in-law. George was 84. George lived a long and fruitful life rooted in the Orthodox Church, and lived out in family, occupation, and hobby. He was a life-long member of Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in Endicott, NY, where, in addition to many other acts of service, he was a board member and choir member. George was predeceased by his parents, John Boras and Mary Komanowski Boras, his sister, Anna, and his brothers, Michael and John. He is survived by loving family, extended family, and god-children: His devoted wife of 61 years, Lydia; his three beloved children and their families: a son David Boras, his wife Patricia, and their children Gregory and Alyssa; a daughter, Karen Boras; and a daughter, Dr. Lynn Uber, and her husband Dr. Walt Uber; a sister-in-law, Helen Boras; a brother-in-law, Alex Fedones, Jr. and his wife Nadine; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and several godchildren, all of whom he was extremely proud. George was a graduate of Union-Endicott High School, and a Navy WWII Veteran, having served aboard the USS Tarawa. He served as a career-long cost control engineer for IBM in Endicott, and with his 30 years of service was a member of the Quarter Century Club. As a singer, he sang bass, not only at Saints Peter and Paul, but also in Hussar Male Chorus and Russian Moods Chorus. George was also known for his enthusiasm and love for golf, a passion which he shared with his son and son-in-law, in addition to other family, friends, and co-workers. He was affectionately known by his grandchildren as "Papa George" and by friends in South Carolina as "Chief". Family and friends will be received at Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, 210 Hill Ave., Endicott, NY from 5 to 8 PM on Monday evening, December 5, 2011. A memorial service will be sung during that time, at 7PM. Leda Buran

Leda (Pizur) Buran (1922 - 2011) . Buran, Leda (Pizur) August 19, 1922 - October 13, 2011 . It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear and wonderful mother, Leda (Pizur) Buran, at Good Shepherd Village with family and friends by her side. Born on August 19, 1922 in Endicott, New York, she lived every day to the fullest with love and happiness for all around her. Leda graduated from Syracuse University and lived for many years both in Endicott and Vestal where she raised five children. She is survived by her children, Andrea, Vancouver, B.C., Nancy (Tom), Seattle, WA, Scott (Ann), Carlisle, PA, Frank (Whitney), Denver, CO; as well as her nine grandchildren, Julie, Jennifer, Bill, Bob, Sam, Eli, Anna, Tess and Thea, all of whom she loved deeply and who brought much joy and happiness into her life. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank (Bunzo) Buran; her son, Bill (Zack); and her siblings, Vera (Pizur) Cibulsky, her brother, Anthony Pizur; and her parents, Eli and Arlene Pizur. A special thank you to her longtime friend, Ernestine Kunkle for always being there, her friend, Sue Eberly and Bob and Diane Cibulsky. Her journey through life touched the hearts of many other people she met along the way and she will always be fondly remembered. Subdeacon Philip A. Tatusko

Tatusko, Philip A. Subdeacon Philip A. Tatusko, 89, passed away peacefully at Wilson Memorial Hospital after a recent illness Sunday July 31, 2011. He was predeceased by his parents, Tekla and Augustus Tatusko, and step-mother, Mary Goida Tatusko. He was the last surviving of 12 brothers and sisters, 6 step brothers, 1 step-sister, and one half-sister. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Vera (Shiptenko), one son, Philip V. (Joanne) Tatusko, one daughter, Paula (Chuck) Norton, three beloved grandchildren, Nicole (Andy) Ewing, Timothy (fiancee Hayley) Norton, and Adam Tatusko. He is also survived by two beloved great-grandchildren, Liam and Sofie Ewing. He is additionally survived by several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. Phil was a Navy Veteran of WWII serving as an engineering interpreter liaison between the US and Soviet Navy. He worked for over 40 years at IBM rising to the level of senior engineer and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. After retiring he became a consultant with assignments in the United States and in Korea. Phil was a devoted member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church where he served as a subdeacon for many years. He headed many church beautification projects and designed the cross in the parish cemetery. Phil was an avid golfer enjoying golfing with his wife Vera and friends at hundreds of courses worldwide. He loved traveling, and especially enjoyed his times on the road in his motor home. He took great pride and joy sharing these excursions with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Disney World became the most popular destination. His unique ability to "tell a story" and tell what is lovingly referred to as "Papa jokes" will be greatly missed. 

Helen Pasternak

On March 7, 2011, Helen entered into the arms of her Heavenly Father. She shared her life together with her classmate and husband of 56 years, Edward; her children: daughter, Melanie Mastanduno (Michael), New Hampshire; son, Edward Paul Pasternak (Susan), Seoul, South Korea; and grandchildren, Michael Anthony Mastanduno, Maria Faith Mastanduno and Edward Joseph Pasternak. She is also survived by two sisters, Ann Groner (Maryland) and Catherine Mikuluk (Maryland); and two brothers, Michael Elinski (Hawaii) and Emil Elinsky (Maryland); and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Helen was a longtime member of the Saints Peter & Paul Orthodox Church, where she sang in the choir. She considered it an honor and privilege to be able to attend the various services with her husband, to be a reader, and especially to attend services during the Lenten period and for the Resurrection of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at Pascha. Nursing was her specialty. She retired from Lourdes Hospital after thirty-five years of dedicated service. She then worked for several more years as a volunteer. Helen sang with the Downtown Singers for over ten years, and also served as a member of the Arts Corps at Binghamton University. She is preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Apolonia Elinski; her husband's parents, Thomas and Anna Pasternak; sisters, Mary Hazilla, Julia Elinski, Olga Hartmann; and brother, John Elinski, a US WWII Veteran; brothers-in-law, Luke Hazilla, James Groner, Col. (ret.) John Mikuluk, Robert Hartmann, Nick Havrilak; sister-in-law, Jean Pasternak; niece, Deborah Hartmann; and nephew, Michael Hazilla.

Terrence C. Berge

Berge, Terrence (Terry) C. of Berkshire: Terrence (Terry) C. Berge of Berkshire, NY passed away March 1st, 2011, following an admirable fight with brain cancer. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather Alexander Koval, and paternal grandparents Sylvia and Christopher Berge. He is survived by his devoted wife Marika (Donenko), and his beloved children Brandon and Ashley; he is also survived by his mother Saundra and Carl Wall, and his father Charles and Fredi Berge; his loving sister Alexandra Berge Grisanti ; his paternal grandmother Anne Koval; Uncle Craig (Louise) Koval; cousin Rebecca. Terry also is survived by his father and mother in-Iaw George and Kathy Donenko and son Alex Donenko; mother and father in-law Linda Smith and Keith Maker. Terry was known as a hard worker, through the years he drove motor coaches for several area firms, was a school bus driver for the Whitney Point School District, worked for the Binghamton Country Club, and most recently was an owner/operator for a Freihofer's and related bakery products. Terry was always willing to help those in need. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church all of his life. The family wishes to thank the Newark Valley Class of 1990, the Zooney Fest organizers, and the members of Sts. Peter and Paul church for their love and support throughout his illness. The family will receive family and friends on Thursday at Sts. Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church, on 210 Hill Ave, Endicott NY, from 5pm until 8pm with the Panikhida being served at 7pm. Marika (Donenko), and his beloved children Brandon and Ashley; he is also survived by his mother Saundra and Carl Wall, and his father Charles and Fredi Berge; his loving sister Alexandra Berge Grisanti ; his paternal grandmother Anne Koval; Uncle Craig (Louise) Koval; cousin Rebecca. Terry also is survived by his father and mother in-Iaw George and Kathy Donenko and son Alex Donenko; mother and father in-law Linda Smith and Keith Maker. Terry was known as a hard worker, through the years he drove motor coaches for several area firms, was a school bus driver for the Whitney Point School District, worked for the Binghamton Country Club, and most recently was an owner/operator for a Freihofer's and related bakery products. Terry was always willing to help those in need. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church all of his life. The family wishes to thank the Newark Valley Class of 1990, the Zooney Fest organizers, and the members of Sts. Peter and Paul church for their love and support throughout his illness.

Daniel E. Dranchak

Daniel E. Dranchak, 50, of Endwell, NY, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2010 at Lourdes Hospital, and went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ following an 8-month battle with cancer. He was predeceased by both pairs of grandparents and is survived by his parents, William and Nadine; and his brother and best friend, David, all of whom he dearly loved more than anything in this world. He is also survived by aunts and uncles, including Olga and Mary Kulasza and John Maliwacki; and cousins, including John M. Maliwacki, Marty and Danny Sullivan, Marie and David Williams, Sydney Bouton, and Cathy Stevens. Dan was a lifelong parishioner of SS. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in Endicott, NY. He graduated from Union Endicott High School in 1978 and Rochester Institute of Technology in 1983, and worked for IBM in Endicott and Poughkeepsie as a software engineer for the past 27 years. Dan's hobbies included golfing, gardening, cooking, travel, and rooting for the Yankees. Dan's family wishes to offer special thanks to Dr. Steven Malkin and nurses, Cyndi and Eve, Drs. Jonathan Wright and Ajeet Gajra and staff including Ann and Arlene, Drs. Dennis Kraus and Babak Mehrara and the nurses on the 17th floor of Memorial Sloan Kettering, Dr. Chung Chung, Dr. Francine Rainone, the Lourdes Infusion staff, and Jennifer Satterlee, a therapist and angel who brought a measure of joy, peace and calm to Dan when it seemed that no one else could reach him. Dan's family also wishes to offer heartfelt thanks to special friends and neighbors, the Kocenkos, the Crolls, the Hitchkos, the Essermans, the Andersons, the Java Team, and Terry Peet and Tatiana Lechtman, who through their own life experiences helped to give Dan hope and strength. We are forever grateful to the SS. Peter and Paul Church family for their unwavering love and support and to everyone for all of the outpouring of love, prayers, and cards received throughout his illness. The hope, support, and comfort they provided are beyond measure.

Helen (Krisko) Murphy

Helen (Krisko) Murphy, 85, passed away Sunday August 22, 2010, surrounded by family and friends. She is survived by her loving husband of over 58 years, Charles F. Murphy, Jr., of Endwell, her sister Mary Sinicki of Florida, several beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Helen was predeceased by her brother Edward Krisko and three sisters Agnes Sipko, Dorothy Kiegler and Irene Vincenec. Helen led a very active life playing softball and basketball as a youth and both bowling and golfing throughout her adult life. She even went parasailing at the age of 80. On November 10, 1951, she married Charles F. Murphy, Jr. Helen retired from IBM, after 38 years of service and was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club. She enjoyed cruises on the Caribbean Sea, the North Sea, the South Pacific and the Erie Canal, as well as travels throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, Asia, South America and to Fiji. Helen was a devoted parishioner of SS Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church in Endicott. She was also a member of Otseningo Chapter #14 O.E.S. and Daughters of the Nile Zuleika Temple in Endicott. Helen will always be remembered for her friendly and gracious manner and delicious baked goods
